I am a PhD Student at Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI), National University of Ireland, Galway, working in the Unit for Natural Language Processing (UNLP) under the supervision of Paul Buitelaar.
In 2009 I obtained my Masters degree at the Polytechnic University of Bucharest, Romania, under the supervision of Tudor Groza, Siegfried Handschuh and Stefan Trausan-Matu. In my master's thesis I addressed the extraction of claims from scientific publications, making use of the Rhetorical Structure Theory and the rhetorical ontology from Semantically Annotated LATEX (SALT).
Previously, I worked as a developer and as a software engineer at Siemens, Vienna and at Gemini Sols, Bucharest. In 2006 I finished my studies of Computer Science at The Technical University, Cluj-Napoca with a Bachelor of Engineering.
My topics of interest are ontology-based information extraction from text, ontology learning and population, domain adaptation of NLP applications, automatic terminology extraction and expert finding. Currently I am preparing my PhD thesis on the topic of Expertise Mining, with a focus on content based measures of expertise. I am one of the main contributors of Saffron, a system that gives an overview of research topics and knowledgeable people in different research areas.
